Class Descriptions (Ages 9-11)

This class is designed for young dancers with some prior ballet experience, focusing on refining fundamental ballet techniques. Students will enhance their skills in barre exercises, center work, and across-the-floor combinations. Emphasis will be placed on proper posture, alignment, and musicality. Through a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, dancers will build strength, flexibility, and confidence, preparing them for more advanced ballet training.

This class introduces students to the vibrant and energetic world of African dance, set to the dynamic rhythms of traditional drums. Participants will learn fundamental movements and techniques, exploring the connection between dance and rhythm. Emphasis will be placed on body isolation, coordination, and expressive movement. Through engaging and interactive sessions, students will gain an appreciation for the cultural significance of African dance while developing their physical skills and rhythmical awareness.

Jazz dance encompasses movements from various dance styles, characterized by its flexibility, speed, and intricate footwork, including leaps and jumps. This energetic style features kicks, twists, turns, rolls, and dynamic steps, combining sharp, quick, and bold movements. Jazz is a gritty and diverse dance form that showcases both precision and expressive freedom.

Modern/lyrical dance creatively expresses and interprets musical compositions through fluid and emotive movement. This style emphasizes the connection between music and dance, allowing dancers to convey deep emotions and tell a story with their bodies.

Tap dance involves stepping in syncopation and improvising with beats or musical accompaniment. This style highlights rhythmic precision and creativity, allowing dancers to create intricate patterns and sounds with their feet.
